Several studies have shown high rates of mental health problems amongst doctors in training worldwide. Self-care has been shown to be protective against burnout and increases subjective wellbeing. This study aims to investigate the self-care practices of foundation year doctors (FYs) in Malta.

National Implementation of a Crisis Resolution Home Treatment (CRHT) Team in Malta: Insights From the First Two Years of Operation.

Crisis Resolution Home Treatment (CRHT) teams have become a widespread alternative to psychiatric hospitalisation. Despite their popularisation, Malta has only recently introduced a CRHT team. The aims of the current study were to investigate (i) patient characteristics, (ii) factors influencing patients' length of follow-up (LoFU) and (iii) predictors of clinical outcomes.

Genotype-phenotype of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease in Malta.

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is characterized by the development of multiple renal cysts causing kidney enlargement and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in half the patients by 60 years of age. The aim of the study was to determine the genetic aetiology in Maltese patients clinically diagnosed with ADPKD and correlate the clinical features.

Methods: A total of 60 patients over 18 years of age clinically diagnosed with ADPKD were studied using a customized panel of genes that had sufficient evidence of disease diagnosis using next generation sequencing (NGS).

COVID-19 vaccination attitudes across the European continent.

This study was conducted to determine the predictors of COVID-19 vaccination attitudes across multiple waves in seven countries geographically spread across the European continent, using data from a COVID-19 survey provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology COVID-19. Facebook users from across the globe participated in this survey which collected information on their knowledge of COVID-19, attitudes towards risk and available information, and their willingness or lack thereof to take the vaccine. In this secondary data analysis study, neural networks were used with special attention given to the importance of the predictors of COVID-19 vaccination attitudes.

Knowledge gaps of medical and pharmacy students with respect to performance enhancing drugs in sport: a pilot study.

Background: Central to the work of medical and pharmacy practitioners is the provision of pharmaceutical support for patients, who may also be competitive athletes. This study aimed to assess the knowledge gaps of medical and pharmacy students at the University of Malta regarding World Anti-Doping Code and the Prohibited List.

Methods: All medical and pharmacy students studying at the University of Malta were invited to participate in an online questionnaire devised by the research team.
