Acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema (ACPE) is a common and serious manifestation of heart failure (HF), representing 10-20% of all acute HF admissions. It is associated with elevated in-hospital mortality and high rates of re-hospitalization. MicroRs, like miR-30d, are of particular interest in heart failure due to their regulatory role in gene expression and potential as biomarkers for diagnosing and predicting patient outcomes, especially in high-risk cases such as ACPE.

To investigate whether copeptin, MR-proADM and MR-proANP, alone or integrated with the SOFA, MuLBSTA and SAPS II scores, are capable of early recognition of COVID-19 ICU patients at increased risk of adverse outcomes. For this predefined secondary analysis of a larger cohort previously described, all consecutive COVID-19 adult patients admitted between March and December 2020 to the ICU of a referral, university hospital in Northern Italy were screened, and clinical severity scores were calculated upon admission. A blood sample for copeptin, MR-proADM and MR-proANP was collected within 48 h (T1), on day 3 (T3) and 7 (T7).

Background And Aim: Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) have been proposed as mediators of endothelial dysfunction. In this study, we aimed to investigate the diagnostic and prognostic role of ADMA and SDMA in acute cerebrovascular disease.

Methods And Results: A prospective case-control study was performed, enrolling 48 patients affected by ischemic stroke with no cardioembolic origin, 20 patients affected by TIA, 40 subjects at high cardiovascular risk and 68 healthy subjects.

Background And Aims: The diagnostic and prognostic performance of soluble Suppression of Tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) in suspected septic patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) is largely unknown.

Materials And Methods: Patients were included in this prospective study if there was high suspicion of sepsis. The plasma level of sST2 was measured during initial ED evaluation.

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients leads to a wide range of clinical manifestations. The evaluation of mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM) as a prognostic biomarker in noncritical wards (NON-ICU) and intensive care units (ICU), may have a potential in predicting disease severity and outcomes.

Objective: To assess the difference in the prognostic power of MR-proADM in NON-ICU wards and in ICUs in a prospective multicentre cohort study.
