Article Synopsis
  • Credible diet and nutrition advice is crucial for cancer patients, but many seek guidance from informal sources before their first dietetic visit.
  • In a study with 77 cancer patients, over 80% experienced nutrition-related symptoms, with 69% obtaining advice mainly from family, friends, and non-dietetic healthcare professionals.
  • The advice received often involved contradictory recommendations about foods to include or avoid, leading patients to feel uncertain about what was trustworthy, yet most continued to follow this advice, highlighting a need for earlier professional dietetic consultation to clarify and support their nutritional needs.
