Checkpoint inhibitors in metastatic gastric and GEJ cancer: a multi-institutional retrospective analysis of real-world data in a Western cohort.

Background: Safety and efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors in advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer could be demonstrated in predominantly Asian cohorts, whereas data in Western patients outside of clinical trials are vastly missing.

Methods: In this multi-institutional retrospective analysis conducted at nine oncologic centers in Austria, we tried to assess feasibility of checkpoint inhibitors in advanced gastric/GEJ cancer in a real-world Western cohort.

Results: In total, data from 50 patients with metastatic gastric/GEJ cancer who received nivolumab or pembrolizumab in a palliative setting between November 2015 and April 2020 have been evaluated.

Olaratumab plus anthracyline in advanced/metastatic soft tissue sarcoma : Data of real-world utilization in Austria.

Background: Olaratumab is a humanized monoclonal antiplatelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha antibody that has been approved in combination with doxorubicin for the treatment of patients with metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (STS). The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess the clinical efficacy in STS patients treated with olaratumab in a real-world setting in Austria.

Methods: Retrospectively collected longitudinal data from patients treated between November 2016 and September 2018 at 9 Austrian centers were obtained from the respective medical charts.

Endothelin-1 genetic polymorphism as predictive marker for bevacizumab in metastatic breast cancer.

Biomarkers for bevacizumab efficacy in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) are of urgent need. The genetic variability of genes involved in angiogenesis could explain the interpatient variability of drug effects. For this biomarker study DNA was extracted from tumor blocks or blood samples of patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative MBC treated with bevacizumab in combination with chemotherapy (bevacizumab cohort, 163 patients) or chemotherapy only (control cohort, 105 patients).

[Treatment of patients with radioiodine refractory, differentiated thyroid carcinoma. A Consensus Statement].

There is no clear standard therapy for patients with radioactive iodine (131I)-refractory locally advanced or metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer. The therapeutic options for this indication have expanded with the recently approved multiple kinase inhibitor sorafenib. Recommendations for the definition and the management of iodine refractory patients were worked up by an interdisciplinary expert panel, consisting of endocrine surgeons, medical oncologists and nuclear medicine specialists.

Multicenter phase II study evaluating docetaxel and cisplatin as neoadjuvant induction regimen prior to surgery or radiochemotherapy with docetaxel, followed by adjuvant docetaxel therapy in chemonaive patients with NSCLC stage II, IIIA and IIIB (TAX-AT 1.203 Trial).

Objectives: Neoadjuvant therapy with a platinum based doublet is an option in NSCLC patients with upfront resectable disease. However, the role of neoadjuvant induction in stages IIIA and IIIB and in initially not resectable patients is unclear.

Patients And Methods: In this phase II trial, 78 patients with locally advanced NSCLC, of whom 56 were considered not resectable at initial diagnosis, were treated with three neoadjuvant cycles of docetaxel and cisplatin and subjected to radical surgery if resectable.
