Background: The incidence of patients showing neck metastasis and no obvious primary tumor at the initial diagnostic evaluation or neck cancer of unknown primary (NCUP) is rising. It is estimated that a relevant part of these tumors arises in the tonsillar crypts or base of the tongue and are p16+-related. However, today, the detection rate of the primary tumor is suboptimal.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Small fiber neuropathy (SFN) after both COVID-19 infection or vaccination has been reported in sporadic cases, but a detailed description and comparison are missing. We aimed to screen a large cohort of patients complaining of pain and autonomic symptoms after COVID-19 natural infection or vaccination to ascertain the presence of SFN and its correlation with autoimmune diseases.
Methods: We prospectively recruited for this case-control study 66 patients: 33 developing sensory and autonomic symptoms after a natural COVID-19 infection (P-COVID) and 33 after a mRNA vaccination against COVID-19 (P-VAC).
Background: The growing understanding of cancer biology and the establishment of new treatment modalities has not yielded the expected results in terms of survival for Laryngeal Squamous Cell Cancer (LSCC). Early diagnosis, as well as prompt identification of patients with high risk of relapse would ensure greater chance of therapeutic success. However, this goal remains a challenge due to the absence of specific biomarkers for this neoplasm.

Methods: All consecutive patients with biopsy-proven LSCC who underwent total laryngectomy (TL) between January 2014 and January 2023 were retrospectively included in the study. A retrospective review of medical records including surgical, pathological and follow-up reports was performed.
