Oral Irrigation Devices: A Scoping Review.

Objectives: Self-performed oral hygiene is essential for preventing dental caries, periodontal, and peri-implant diseases. Oral irrigators are adjunctive oral home care aids that may benefit oral health. However, the effects of oral irrigation on oral health, its role in oral home care, and its mechanism of action are not fully understood.

Decision-making on listing new medicines for public funding in New Zealand: the case of 'new' type 2 diabetes medications.

Introduction New medicines for the management of type 2 diabetes became available internationally in 2005, yet only in 2018 did the first of these become available in New Zealand. Access to these new medicines in New Zealand is largely dependent on decisions made by the Pharmaceutical Management Agency (PHARMAC). Aim This study sought to describe the decision-making processes to better understand access to new medicines in New Zealand.

[Outpatient surgery in otorhinolaryngology].

86 ENT operations have been performed in the day outpatient hospital. Basing on this experience, the authors present criteria of the patients' selection for the outpatient surgery, describe preoperative preparation of the patients and criteria of safe discharge from the hospital. The list of the operations which can be performed in a day hospital is given as well as results of the operations in it.

[Treatment of patients with malignant laryngeal and pharyngeal neoplasms].

The results of the treatment of 340 patients with malignant tumors in the laryngopharynx show the advantages of combined and surgical methods over radiation therapy: five-year survival after application of the above methods made up 43% and 12%, respectively. A new method of autovenous plastics of carotid artery is proposed to treat advanced metastatic tumors. Different variants of restoring pharyngeal integrity after the destructive operations are evaluated.

[Benign tumors of the laryngopharynx].

Benign tumours of the laryngopharynx are mainly vascular tumours. Thirty two persons with the given pathology were under observation. The main clinical symptoms of the disease are the appearance of blood in the sputum, dysphonia, dyspnea of different degree.
