There is a need for updated survey literature collected from correctional mental health professionals working within prison settings. Up to date research can add to the literature addressing the best practices for mental health treatment of the transgender incarcerated population in order to provide health care professionals and correctional staff with more effective, efficient, and widely understood intervention practices to facilitate the well-being and safety of this population. Guided by three research aims, 50 mental health professionals from 21 states throughout the United States were surveyed in this quantitative survey regarding their work with the transgender incarcerated population.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explores how changes in cilia, which are tiny hair-like structures on cells, are linked to various diseases, particularly focusing on the Forkhead transcription factor FOXC1 and its role in Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome (ARS).
  • It was found that individuals with FOXC1-related ARS exhibit symptoms similar to those seen in ciliopathies, suggesting a connection between FOXC1 and ciliary function.
  • The researchers showed that manipulating the levels of Foxc1 protein affects cilia length and disrupts important signaling pathways in cells, indicating that altered cilia activity may contribute to some of the symptoms associated with FOXC1 mutations.

The Forkhead box transcription factors FOXC1 and FOXC2 are expressed in condensing mesenchyme cells at the onset of endochondral ossification. We used the Prx1-cre mouse to ablate Foxc1 and Foxc2 in limb skeletal progenitor cells. Prx1-cre;Foxc1Δ/Δ;Foxc2Δ/Δ limbs were shorter than controls, with worsening phenotypes in distal structures.

Article Synopsis
  • * The condition involves neurochemical imbalances, particularly with neurotransmitters like gamma-aminobutyric acid and glutamate, which arise from chronic alcohol use and result in symptoms like hyperexcitability.
  • * Treatment primarily includes the use of benzodiazepines for symptom relief and ensuring patient safety, alongside careful monitoring of vital signs and electrolyte levels due to associated autonomic dysregulation; more research is needed to better understand DT, especially when it coexists with other medical conditions.

Objectives: Hyperpyrexia has been associated with a greater prevalence of bacterial infections in the pediatric population, which prior to routine childhood vaccinations, has led to invasive testing and empiric antibiotic use for urinary tract infections, bacterial pneumonia, bacteremia, and bacterial meningitis. Since the implementation of routine childhood vaccinations, the prevalence of serious bacterial infections (SBIs) has declined. This study aims to determine if there is an association between hyperpyrexia and serious bacterial infections in well-appearing febrile pediatric patients presenting to the emergency department (ED).
