Background And Aims: Although osteoarthritis (OA) is managed mainly in primary care, general practitioners (GPs) are not always trained in its diagnosis, which leads to diagnostic delays, unnecessary resource utilization, and suboptimal patient outcomes.

Methods: To address this situation, an International Rheumatologic Board (IRB) of 8 experts from 3 continents developed guidelines for the diagnosis of OA in primary care. The focus was three major topologies: hip, knee, and hand/finger OA.

Acute cardiovascular effects of the alpha2-adrenoceptor antagonist, idazoxan, in rats: influence of the basal sympathetic tone.

Intravenous administration of the alpha2-adrenoceptor antagonist, idazoxan, elicits variable cardiovascular effects, depending on experimental conditions. In this study, the effects of idazoxan were investigated in rats with high, low, or no basal sympathetic tone. In a group of conscious Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 9), mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and renal sympathetic nervous activity (RSNA) were recorded.

Rotavirus gastroenteritis in southern California.

The epidemiology of rotavirus infections in Southern California was analyzed over a three year period, from January 1, 1981 through December 31, 1983. Data was available from patients seen at the University of California Irvine Medical Center (UCIMC), in addition to referral testing provided to the community in Orange County. Over the 3 yr period the laboratory performed 1172 rotavirus assays.
