The antimicrobial potential of traditional remedies of Indigenous peoples from Canada against MRSA planktonic and biofilm bacteria in wound infection mimetic conditions.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is the leading cause of wound infections, often progressing into serious invasive bloodstream infections. MRSA disproportionately affects Indigenous peoples in Canada with higher rates of skin and wound infections, an example of persistent gaps in health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples precipitated by the legacy of colonialism. Conversely, Indigenous peoples have long used natural remedies for infections and other diseases; however, their knowledge was rarely considered for modern medicine.

Ligand-dependent intracellular trafficking of the G protein-coupled P2Y receptor.

Endosomal trafficking is intricately linked to G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) fate and signaling. Extracellular uridine diphosphate (UDP) acts as a signaling molecule by selectively activating the GPCR P2Y. Despite the recent interest for this receptor in pathologies, such as gastrointestinal and neurological diseases, there is sparse information on the endosomal trafficking of P2Y receptors in response to its endogenous agonist UDP and synthetic selective agonist 5-iodo-UDP (MRS2693).

Use of Conglomerate Mixed Crystals to Deracemize a Stable Racemic-Compound-Forming System.

Deracemization extended to racemic-compound-forming systems is demonstrated. We present here the first results of an alternative for the resolution of systems that exhibit a stable racemic compound but also a closely related conglomerate-forming system. If the couples of enantiomers forming the racemic compound and the enantiomers of the stable conglomerate can syncrystallize in mirror-related partial solid solutions, it is possible to deracemize the racemic mixture of mixed crystals to access to a single handedness.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction to improve depression, pain and high patient global assessment in controlled rheumatoid arthritis.

Objective: The aim was to improve distressing patient-reported outcomes (PROs) that persisted in RA patients with clinically controlled inflammation (controlled RA).

Methods: In a pragmatic pilot study, we offered mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), a group intervention, to controlled RA patients who had high (≥16) Centre for Evaluation Studies depression (CES-D) scores and/or patient general assessment of disease activity (PGA) at least 2/10 larger than evaluator general assessment (EGA) (PGA-EGA: Delta). Evaluations before, 6 and 12 months after MBSR included CES-D, PGA, modified HAQ, simple disease activity index (SDAI), anxiety (general anxiety disorder 7; GAD-7), coping strategies (coping with health injuries and problems; CHIP), sleep disturbance and pain.

Role of pressure on electronic, magnetic and structural properties at iron's Curie temperature: a DFT + DMFT study.

We use the combination of density functional theory and dynamical mean-field theory to compute the Curie temperature of the iron body-centered cubicphase and probe its pressure dependence. Our calculations reveal thatTCshows a decrease which is very weak over a domain of pressures that is much larger than the stability domain of thephase. This is consistent with the experimental results.
