Traumatic tricuspid regurgitation (TTR) is an uncommon cause of acute right ventricular dysfunction. The surgical approach can be complex, and repair tends to have a lower success rate when right heart failure symptoms are present. We present a case of a 56-year-old man with chronic isolated tricuspid valve flail and severe TTR due to high-energy blunt chest trauma from a vehicle accident 24 years prior.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac myxomas can be tricky to diagnose because they often imitate other cardiovascular or systemic issues, making prompt recognition essential for effective treatment.
  • A 49-year-old man experienced sudden leg weakness and slurred speech, leading to the discovery of a large left atrial mass via echocardiography, which was identified as a myxoma after surgery.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering rare conditions like myxomas when faced with unusual neurological symptoms to avoid severe health risks.

Article Synopsis
  • The discovery of superconductivity in BiS-layered compounds has raised interest among physicists due to their crystal structure similarity to cuprates and Fe-based superconductors.
  • Research using the FP-LAPW technique showed that electron doping significantly affects the electronic structures of SrFBiS and BaFBiS, which enhances their superconducting properties.
  • The study also explored the optical characteristics and thermoelectric properties of these compounds, indicating that spin-orbit coupling plays a crucial role in their electronic behavior and may lead to practical applications.

Using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT), we studied a compound widely used in daily life, namely: Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) monomer in its two stable isomers, cis-MMA and trans-MMA. The impact of conformation on the optical and electronic properties of MMA was highlighted. Structural parameters and thermodynamic properties were also assessed, and allowed to discuss the stability and reactivity of this compound.

Scimitar syndrome has been repaired by different surgical procedures including intracardiac baffle technique, reimplantation of scimitar vein (SV) to the right atrium or the left atrium (LA). However, several anatomical variations such as short venous collector coursing deeply within the lung hilum with infradiaphragmatic drainage make the repair more challenging with conventional repair techniques. We present an alternative method for repair using a tube graft to connect the SV to the LA.
