Article Synopsis
  • Preoperative imaging for patients with hyperparathyroidism aids in planning surgeries, especially minimizing invasive techniques like minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIPTX), which has benefits like shorter surgery times and reduced risks.
  • FCH PET/CT scans have shown to have a high sensitivity (97%) for detecting abnormal parathyroid glands, outperforming other imaging methods, which leads to lower rates of surgery failure.
  • The article reviews the use of FCH PET/CT in diagnosing and guiding treatment for hyperparathyroidism, emphasizing its safety and effectiveness over a 12-year real-world experience supporting its use as the preferred imaging choice.

Background: Both cabazitaxel and lutetium-177 prostate-specific membrane antigen (Lu-PSMA) improve survival in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) after an androgen receptor pathway inhibitor and docetaxel, but there are limited data regarding Lu-PSMA activity after cabazitaxel.

Objective: To assess the activity of Lu-PSMA and determinants of outcomes after cabazitaxel in mCRPC.

Design, Setting, And Participants: A retrospective analysis was conducted of consecutive mCRPC patients from eight European centers treated with Lu-PSMA after cabazitaxel.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is often linked with high calcium levels, while normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NHPT) can be easily misdiagnosed.
  • A study analyzed patients with hypercalciuric kidney stones to compare characteristics and prevalence of NHPT versus hypercalcemic hyperparathyroidism (HPHPT), revealing that NHPT accounts for 40% of PHPT cases.
  • The results found no significant differences in parathyroid characteristics or stone composition between NHPT and HPHPT, but indicated that NHPT patients showed a stronger response to calcium loading, highlighting the importance of dynamic testing for accurate diagnosis.
