Background: According to the National Transplant Center (CENATRA), in 2013, a total of 2707 transplantations were performed in Mexico; of them, 10% (270 transplantations) were done in our Tertiary Care Hospital (Western National Medical Center). This means that one in 10 transplant recipients undergoes transplantation at our medical center. The aim of our study was to describe the characteristics of and to compare changes in the kidney transplantation program over time.

Methods: A randomized, open-label, controlled clinical trial was performed on renal transplant recipients with a follow-up of 12 months.
Background: Acute rejection and graft function have not been completely clarified in early-steroid-withdrawal (ESW) patients. The objective of this study was to compare the effect of early steroid withdrawal on GFR, graft survival/rejection in recipients in a cohort treated with tacrolimus/mycophenolate mofetil compared to a control cohort.
Material And Method: Retrospective cohort, in 60 low immunological risk recipients between December 2005 and July 2010.
Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a common cause of morbidity, graft loss, and mortality among kidney recipients due to its direct and indirect influences on organs and systems, namely, immunomodulation, which favors the appearance of opportunistic infections, vasculopathy, and decreased graft and patient survival. In Mexico the dimensions of this infection are unknown in kidney transplant recipients. We evaluated the incidence and predictive factors for CMV infection among renal transplant recipients of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in Guadalajara.

Some reference values from Mexican population were established in the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ) 10 years ago.
