High resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT), a technique for pulmonary parenchyma studies, has been for a long time performed with only few scans with a large interval in between: the reasons were the supposed increase in the dose to the patient after kVp and mAs increase, which is necessary to reduce background noise, and the characteristic distribution of most diffuse lung diseases. Of late, HRCT skin dose has been demonstrated to be markedly lower than that of conventional CT (8/10 mm contiguous slices). To evaluate organ doses to patients during HRCT, we compared conventional CT (10 mm slices), HRCT (1.

Post-operative radiotherapy of supraglottic carcinoma, because of the high risk of lymph-nodal metastases, should include irradiation of the primary tumour as well as regional lymph-nodes (jugular chain, posterior cervical. supraclavicular, submental and submaxillary triangle nodes). Taking into account the anatomically complex region to be irradiated and the critical organs present within the areas involved, the authors present a treatment plan that provides the neck irradiation through three 60Co fields: Two posterior oblique and a posterior one with median lead block in correspondence to the spinal cord.

The post-surgical radiotherapy of breast cancer and its problems are discussed and an account is given of recent trends in this field. The use of fast electrons is regarded as an optimal form of management for the chest wall, and the ipsilateral subscapular and internal mammary lymph gland chains.

The usefulness of working out radiotherapy treatment planes using radiobiological iso-effect curves instead of only iso-dose curves is explained. Examples of the application of iso-TDF curves are presented with reference to the method of Ellis.
