Introduction: Within the characteristics of hypertensive glaucoma, it is distinguished by presenting elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with a low ocular perfusion pressure (OPP). Changes in these parameters can be affected by systemic disease such chronic kidney disease (CKD). Likewise, there is a correlation in the prevalence of both pathologies in patients with similar characteristics, emphasizing the need to address glaucoma management in patients with CKD given the implications of the disease on ocular pathology.

Background: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a severe clinical entity associated with elevated short-term mortality. We aimed to characterize patients with decompensated cirrhosis according to presence of ACLF, their association with active alcohol intake, and long-term survival in Latin America.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study of decompensated cirrhotic in three Chilean university centers (2017-2019).

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of valsartan (V) or chlorthalidone (C) monotherapy in comparison with a fixed combination of valsartan and chlorthalidone (V + C).

Methods: This 12-week multicenter randomized three-arm open-label study randomly allocated 72 patients to V or C as monotherapy or a combination of V + C. The aim was to measure changes in office systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and in 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) from baseline to week 12, in addition to medication tolerability.

Objectives: A multicenter, noninterventional, observational study was conducted in the Latin American countries including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela to assess the prevalence of liver and cardiac iron overload using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with chronic anemias except thalassemia.

Methods: Patients aged >10 years with transfusion-dependent anemias, except thalassemia, either with <20 units of red blood cell (RBC) transfusions with serum ferritin (SF) levels >2000 ng/mL or with ≥20 units of RBC transfusions regardless of SF level in their lifetime, were enrolled. Iron overload was assessed using MRI.
