Background: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients receiving haemodialysis (HD) are a vulnerable group of patients with increased mortality from COVID-19. Despite improved understanding, the duration of host immunity following COVID-19 infection and role of serological testing alone or in addition to real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) testing in the HD population is not fully understood, which this study aimed to investigate.

Methods: There were two parts to this study.

Introduction: Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is a major cause of disability and death after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. The literature suggests that impaired cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) may be a predictor for DCI; still no CVR based prediction model has been developed. Increased knowledge about possible predictors of DCI can improve patient management in high-risk patients and allow for shorter hospital stay in low-risk patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) can be impaired shortly after treatment for unruptured intracranial aneurysms, but its recovery over time is not well understood.
  • A study measured CVR in 37 patients after their treatment and then again one year later, finding that blood flow velocities decreased significantly in the first week post-surgery compared to the year later on the treated side.
  • The results suggested larger aneurysms experienced a more considerable change in CVR, particularly in patients treated with clipping methods, highlighting the need to evaluate CVR on both sides separately for a clearer understanding.
