POC device for rapid oral pH determination based on a smartphone platform.

Salivary pH serves as a valuable and useful diagnostic marker for periodontal disease, as it not only plays a critical role in disease prevention but also in its development. Typically, saliva sampling is collected by draining and spitting it into collection tubes or using swabs. In this study, we have developed a Point-of-Care (POC) device for in situ determination of oral pH without the need for complex instruments, relying solely on a smartphone as the detection device.

Transmission out-of-plane interferometer to study thermal distributions in liquids.

An optical setup that does not need in-line alignment of the object illumination and camera sensor, or requires a reflection mirror after the sample, is introduced to observe the optical phase in a heating liquid. This system uses an out-of-plane transmission digital holographic interferometer that uniformly adds speckle to the image holograms by means of a neutral phase screen. The way in which the liquid is illuminated allows having a variable magnification of the observed area of the sample.

The management of pain associated with wound care in severe burn patients in Spain.

Methods: Multi-centre, observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study performed in 4 burn units in Spain.

Results: A total of 55 patients undergoing 64 procedures were analysed.
