In a system biology-based study, we previously reported that IL-6 and IL6R -specific m-RNA levels were elevated in leukocytes of patients with Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here, the association of toll-like receptor4 (TLR4) rs 141534085 and cytochrome P450 family 51 subfamily A member 1(CYP51A1) rs6 with tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF- α), rheumatoid factor (RF)- and Anti- cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibody -positivity was investigated in almost the same subjects. Forty-six patients and 48 normal subjects were recruited in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • The systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the impact of spiritually based interventions, like meditation and yoga, on lowering blood pressure in adults, analyzing studies published until January 2022.
  • Out of 24 included studies, the results showed a significant reduction in both systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) after these interventions, with a weighted mean difference of -7.63 for SBP and -4.75 for DBP.
  • High variability among the studies was noted, but overall, the findings suggest that these spiritual practices can effectively decrease blood pressure and potentially lower cardiovascular disease risks.

Article Synopsis
  • A phase 3 clinical trial (IMerge) showed positive results for imetelstat, a telomerase inhibitor, in treating transfusion-dependent patients with lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) who did not respond to other treatments.
  • This treatment specifically targets patients who have relapsed or are refractory to erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.
  • If approved, imetelstat could significantly expand the limited treatment options currently available for MDS patients.
