Article Synopsis
  • A study examined post-COVID-19 patients to assess their functional capacity and exertional desaturation upon hospital discharge, focusing on factors like high-flow nasal cannula use and prolonged hospitalization.* -
  • Out of 381 participants, about 51% experienced exertional desaturation, and significant associations were found between this condition and the use of high-flow nasal cannulas, hospital stays longer than 10 days, and instances of pulmonary embolism.* -

Background: Chylothorax is a relatively rare complication after surgery of the mediastinum. The occurrence and the results of surgical treatment of this condition are difficult to foresee due to the wide heterogeneity in thoracic duct anatomy.

Case Summary: We report two cases of postoperative chylothorax treated with ligation by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the outcomes of two surgical strategies for treating acute Type A aortic dissection (A-AAD): limited repair (ascending aorta/hemiarch) versus extended repair (including aortic arch).
  • The analysis includes 213 patients from 2006 to 2020, comparing early and late survival rates, and complications between the two groups over two eras.
  • Results show that arch replacement leads to better long-term survival and lower complications without increasing mortality, suggesting it should be considered for A-AAD treatment in skilled medical centers.

Synovial sarcoma is a relatively chemosensitive type of soft tissue sarcoma and it often metastasizes to the lung. We investigated the role of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with high-grade synovial sarcoma at their first lung metastasectomy (LMTS). Forty-six HGSS patients had their first LMTS at our institute (Rizzoli Orthopedic Hospital, Bologna, Italy) between 2000 and 2020.
