[A Case of Prostate Adenocarcinoma Metastasis to the Bilateral Breasts].

A 67-year-old male came to our department with complaints of urinary retention and gross hematuria. The prostate specific antigen (PSA) level in the serum was elevated to 69.5 ng/ml.

Clinical evaluation of sonoelasticity measurement in liver using ultrasonic imaging of internal forced low-frequency vibration.

The aim of this study is to evaluate liver elasticity noninvasively. We have already proposed an ultrasonic imaging system that can reconstruct vibration maps inside tissue under forced mechanical vibration. With this system, shear elastic properties of soft tissue can be evaluated as vibration velocities.

Histologic evaluation of preventive measures for scald injury on the peritoneo-serosal surface due to intraoperative hyperthermic chemoperfusion for patients with gastric cancer and peritoneal metastasis.

To histologically assess the preventive efficacy of cimetidine against scald injury on the peritoneo-serosal surface during intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion (IHCP) for advanced gastric cancer, a randomized histologic study using cimetidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, was performed for 20 patients with advanced or recurrent gastric cancer and peritoneal metastasis. Cimetidine 50 mg/kg was administered intravenously to 10 patients just prior to the IHCP (cimetidine group), and the remaining 10 patients underwent the IHCP without cimetidine (control group). The background factors and IHCP treatments of these two groups were nearly the same.

Role of a signal transduction pathway which controls disassembly of microfilament bundles and suppression of high-molecular-weight tropomyosin expression in oncogenic transformation of NRK cells.

Role of disassembly of microfilament bundles and suppression of high-molecular-weight tropomyosin (TM) expression in growth factor- and various oncogene-induced transformation was studied by using NRK cells and its transformation-deficient mutants. In NRK cells which show a transformed phenotype by treatment with EGF and TGF-beta, cellular stress fibers became dissociated by EGF or EGF and TGF-beta combination, whereas TGF-beta alone caused thicker appearance of stress fibers. Accompanying these changes, the expression of TM isoforms 1 and 2 was suppressed by treatment with EGF or EGF and TGF-beta, but elevated by TGF-beta with similar time courses.
