Article Synopsis
  • Group B streptococci (GBS) can cause serious infections, and this study focused on analyzing their capsule types, antibiotic resistance, and genetic similarities among different GBS strains taken from female patients at a hospital.
  • A total of 110 GBS isolates were tested for antibiotic susceptibility using the Kirby-Bauer method, with results showing all were sensitive to penicillin and vancomycin, but notable resistance was found against erythromycin (60%) and clindamycin (11.8%).
  • Capsule serotypes revealed that the majority of GBS isolates belonged to types Ib (42.7%) and Ia (35.5%), and the study concluded that further research is needed to better understand the distribution of GBS
