Objective: We aimed to further improve knowledge about volar plate (VP) motion of the finger proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP), by analyzing the dynamic VP shape during a full range of finger flexion using magnetic resonance cinematography of the fingers (MRCF), and to compare the results with anatomical cross sections from cadaver specimens.

Materials And Methods: The dynamic sagittal VP shape was visualized with MRCF in a total number of 23 healthy volunteers. The length, angle, and thickness as well as the contact length of the VP to the PIP joint base were measured.

Background: Adiposity is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in part due to effects on blood lipids. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy provides direct information on >130 biomarkers mostly related to blood lipid particles.

Methods: Among 28,934 Mexican adults without chronic disease and not taking lipid-lowering therapy, we examine the cross-sectional relevance of body-mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and hip circumference (HC) to NMR-measured metabolic biomarkers.

In the past years, light-emitting diodes (LED) made of GaN and its related ternary compounds with indium and aluminium have become an enabling technology in all areas of lighting. Visible LEDs have yet matured, but research on deep ultraviolet (UV) LEDs is still in progress. The polarisation in the anisotropic wurtzite lattice and the low free hole density in p-doped III-nitride compounds with high aluminium content make the design for high efficiency a critical step.

Context: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes are associated with dyslipidemia, metabolic abnormalities, and atherosclerotic risk. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy provides much more detail on lipoproteins than traditional assays.

Methods: In about 38 000 participants from the Mexico City Prospective Study, aged 35 to 84 years and not using lipid-lowering medication, NMR spectroscopy quantified plasma concentrations of lipoprotein particles, their lipidic compositions, and other metabolic measures.
