A massive rock and ice avalanche caused the 2021 disaster at Chamoli, Indian Himalaya.

On 7 February 2021, a catastrophic mass flow descended the Ronti Gad, Rishiganga, and Dhauliganga valleys in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, India, causing widespread devastation and severely damaging two hydropower projects. More than 200 people were killed or are missing. Our analysis of satellite imagery, seismic records, numerical model results, and eyewitness videos reveals that ~27 × 10 cubic meters of rock and glacier ice collapsed from the steep north face of Ronti Peak.

A national study of health care service utilization and substance use after the 2010 Chilean earthquake.

Objective: A national epidemiological survey in Chile assessed adaptive (health care utilization) and maladaptive (substance use) postearthquake behaviors.

Methods: Three months after the 8.8-magnitude 2010 Bio-Bio earthquake, face-to-face interviews were conducted with a representative sample of 2,108 adults.

Exposure to rapid succession disasters: a study of residents at the epicenter of the Chilean Bío Bío earthquake.

We examined cumulative and specific types of trauma exposure as predictors of distress and impairment following a multifaceted community disaster. Approximately 3 months after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent looting in Bío Bío, Chile, face-to-face interviews were conducted in 5 provinces closest to the epicenter.

Feasibility of combination allogeneic stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury: a case report.

Cellular therapy for spinal cord injury (SCI) is overviewed focusing on bone marrow mononuclear cells, olfactory ensheathing cells, and mesenchymal stem cells. A case is made for the possibility of combining cell types, as well as for allogeneic use. We report the case of 29 year old male who suffered a crush fracture of the L1 vertebral body, lacking lower sensorimotor function, being a score A on the ASIA scale.

Assessment of cervical involvement in endometrial carcinoma by hysteroscopy and directed biopsy.

The objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic validity of hysteroscopy and directed biopsy for assessing cervical involvement in endometrial carcinoma. We conducted a study of 240 hysteroscopies and 44 cervical biopsies performed on 240 patients with endometrial carcinoma between 2000 and 2005. Hysteroscopy results suggested cervical involvement in 55 cases, of which only 31 were confirmed (a subtotal hysterectomy was performed in two cases, and the resection margins were examined for tumor invasion).
