Nuclear Export Inhibitor Selinexor Enhances Oncolytic Myxoma Virus Therapy against Cancer.

Unlabelled: Oncolytic viruses exploited for cancer therapy have been developed to selectively infect, replicate, and kill cancer cells to inhibit tumor growth. However, in some cancer cells, oncolytic viruses are often limited in completing their full replication cycle, forming progeny virions, and/or spreading in the tumor bed because of the heterogeneous cell types within the tumor bed. Here, we report that the nuclear export pathway regulates oncolytic myxoma virus (MYXV) infection and cytoplasmic viral replication in a subclass of human cancer cell types where viral replication is restricted.

Inhibition of cleavage of human complement component C5 and the R885H C5 variant by two distinct high affinity anti-C5 nanobodies.

The human complement system plays a crucial role in immune defense. However, its erroneous activation contributes to many serious inflammatory diseases. Since most unwanted complement effector functions result from C5 cleavage into C5a and C5b, development of C5 inhibitors, such as clinically approved monoclonal antibody eculizumab, are of great interest.

Combined use of a petal flap and V-Y advancement flap for reconstruction of presacral defects following rectal resection.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a combination of flaps for the reconstruction of presacral defects following abdominoperineal resections: a paramedian vertically oriented caudally based lotus petal flap for presacral defects combined with a horizontal V-Y advancement flap for closure of the superficial donor site defect.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients with a residual defect following an abdominoperineal resection between 2010 and 2017 in the Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep. The primary endpoint was complications related to the reconstruction.

Operative resection is a viable treatment of macrodactyly of the foot caused by lipofibromatous hamartoma: a case study with 5 year follow-up.

Unlabelled: Lipofibromatous hamartoma (LFH) is a benign tumour of nervous tissue that most commonly involves the median nerve. Only a few cases of LFH in the foot have been described. In these cases growth of bone and other tissue causing macrodactyly, a condition known as macrodystrophia lipomatosa, is often observed.

Prevalence and severity of cold intolerance in patients after hand fracture.

Cold intolerance is a well-known phenomenon that develops in the first months after hand injury and generally does not decrease over time. In this study, we evaluated the prevalence and severity of cold intolerance after hand fracture in 129 patients using the Cold Intolerance Symptom Severity (CISS) questionnaire. Patients with nerve and/or vascular injuries were excluded.
