Research on new reaction routes and precursors to prepare catalysts for CO hydrogenation has enormous importance. Here, we report on the preparation of the permanganate salt of the urea-coordinated iron(III), [hexakis(urea-)iron(III)]permanganate ([Fe(urea-O)](MnO)) via an affordable synthesis route and preliminarily demonstrate the catalytic activity of its (Fe,Mn)O thermal decomposition products in CO hydrogenation. [Fe(urea-O)](MnO) contains O-coordinated urea ligands in octahedral propeller-like arrangement around the Fe cation.

The classification according to the Water Framework Directive (WFD) includes numerous challenges in contrast with the previously applied water qualification standards. The most important element of the ecological status, the biological one, is based on five groups of living organisms: phytoplankton, phytobenthon, macrophytes, macro-invertebrates and fish. The results of a three-year research project financed by the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) are reported in this work.

Over the last few decades more and more natural wastewater treatment systems have been built in Hungary. The present study is the first step in creating a broad database on the water quality parameters and on the pollutant removal efficiency of these systems. The investigation included 78 plants out of which we analysed 16 systems in detail.

The hallmark of AIDS is the gradual loss of CD4+ T-lymphocytes, in spite of their infection in low ratio. The pathomechanism is hardly known, therefore, the production of HIV-1 and certain aspects of cell death were studied. Infectivity was decreased by the acidification of culture media.
