Article Synopsis
  • This study compares the outcomes of two self-expanding transcatheter heart valve systems (ACURATE and EVOLUT) in patients undergoing valve-in-valve (ViV) procedures for degenerated surgical prostheses.
  • A total of 835 patients across 20 centers were analyzed, with key outcomes including technical success, device success, and 30-day mortality rates evaluated between the two groups.
  • Results showed that while overall procedural outcomes were similar, specific diameter measurements influenced device success differently between the two valve systems.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the safety and effectiveness of two types of stents—biodegradable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stents and durable-polymer zotarolimus-eluting stents—in patients at high bleeding risk receiving abbreviated dual antiplatelet therapy after coronary interventions.
  • Conducted as a randomized trial across 52 hospitals in 18 countries, it involved 1,948 patients who were randomized to receive one of the two stent types after successful lesion preparation, followed by 1 month of dual antiplatelet therapy.
  • Results showed that at 1 year, the rates of adverse outcomes (death, heart attack, or stent thrombosis) were similar between the two stent types, with

Article Synopsis
  • The BIOFLOW-DAPT trial investigates the safety of the Orsiro Mission stent versus the Resolute Onyx stent in high bleeding risk patients undergoing PCI, focusing on a 1-month dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) regimen.
  • The study will assess the occurrence of cardiac death, myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis over a year, with a total of 1948 participants to ensure reliable results.
  • This is the first randomized trial to evaluate a reduced DAPT duration specifically for HBR patients receiving the Orsiro Mission stent, aiming to balance safety and bleeding risk.

Background: To chart the evolution of the CTO-PCI landscape in Belgium and Luxembourg, the Belgian Working Group on Chronic Total Occlusions (BWGCTO) was established in 2016.

Methods: Between May 2016 and December 2019, patients undergoing a CTO-PCI treatment were prospectively and consecutively enrolled. Twenty-one centres in Belgium and one in Luxembourg participated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how lockdown measures during COVID-19 affected the rate and treatment of ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) cases in Belgium.
  • There was a 26% decrease in STEMI admissions during the lockdown compared to previous years, along with delays in treatment and increased late presentations among patients.
  • The findings suggest that reduced external triggers like air pollution and public reluctance to seek care may explain the lower STEMI cases and treatment delays during the lockdown.
