Quality, acceptability and usability of self-sampling kits used by non-healthcare professionals for STI diagnosis in Spain: a single-blind study.

Objectives: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have markedly increased over the last decade in Spain, calling for prevention and control innovative approaches. While there is evidence indicating the effectiveness of self-sampling for STI diagnosis, no kits for this purpose have been authorised in Spain.

Methods: A prospective single-blind cross-sectional study carried out between November and December 2022 in an STI clinic in Madrid, Spain, to determine the validity, feasibility and acceptability of self-sampling kits used by non-healthcare professionals from vagina, pharynx, rectum and urethra to diagnose (CT) and (NG).

Penile median raphe gonococcal infection.

The occurrence of cysts and papulopustules along the midline penile raphe, as a complication of gonococcal urethritis, is considered an exceptional presentation. These lesions are related to developmental abnormalities in the fusion of the lower portion of the ventral abdominal wall during embryogenesis, which create small pathways along the raphe of the penis, prone to secondary infection in the presence of gonococcal urethritis. We present the case of a 25-year-old male who experienced these lesions twice, coinciding with two separate episodes of gonococcal urethritis following unprotected sex.

Rapid expansion of lymphogranuloma venereum infections with fast diversification and spread of L genovariants.

Numerous international organizations, including the World Health Organization, have been drawing attention to the global increase in sexually transmitted infections. Twenty years ago, lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) was mainly considered a tropical disease; in recent decades, however, LGV has been increasingly present in high-income countries. This increase has been linked to men who have sex with men who participate in highly interconnected sexual networks, leading to a rapid spread of LGV.

Nongonococcal tysonitis.

Tyson's glands are sebaceous glands located on each side of the frenulum that communicate with the preputial sac, and their inflammation can be an infrequent complication of urethritis. We describe a rare case that presented with urethral discharge and parafrenular swelling with mucopurulent discharge a week after an unprotected sexual encounter. The patient was empirically treated with 500 mg of ceftriaxone intramuscularly and 100 mg of doxycycline every 12 h for 14 days with symptomatic resolution.
