Older adults have an increased risk of adverse drug events related to polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) use. These patients are even more vulnerable as they transition through different health care settings. In 2023, the American Geriatrics Society published an updated version of the Beers Criteria, providing updated guidance on identifying and managing PIMs.

Background: Inflammatory cytokine levels are associated with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and can be influenced by a person’s macronutrient profile. This work aims to evaluate the relationship between the compliance with the age-specific recommended protein intake and the levels of inflammatory markers related to the risk of NCDs. Methods: The study participants included 347 participants (119 men and 228 women), ages 18 to 86 years.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the effects of metabolites from an extract rich in tannins on gene dysregulation caused by ultraviolet A radiation in human dermal fibroblasts, addressing a gap in research regarding oral formulations for skin disorders.
  • - Healthy volunteers participated in a randomized trial, where their blood plasma was analyzed for gallic acid metabolites after ingesting the extract, to assess how these metabolites could influence the response of skin cells to UV damage.
  • - The results indicated that while the metabolites did not significantly affect the expression of most extracellular matrix genes, they activated 10 genes related to skin repair, suggesting a potential role in recovery from UV-induced skin damage.

In order to evaluate and identify the antioxidant properties and the phytochemical characteristics, as well as the role of the genetic background and the different fruit parts in the definition of fruit quality, we characterized the existing germplasm through nuclear simple sequence repeats (SSRs) and evaluated the genetic divergence between ancient S. Giovanni varieties ( L.) and different types of grafting in relation to some variables of fruit quality.
