Background: Osseointegration depends on primary stability, and further, implant surface modifications may improve secondary stability. This randomized clinical trial evaluates whether adding a fluoride solution enhances the implant stability.

Materials And Methods: Stability of dental implants with two different types of surface treatments was compared utilizing resonance frequency analysis (RFA).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between secretory leucocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) and Annexin A2 (AnxA2) in tonsillar cancer and HPV status, analyzing samples from patients with both conditions.
  • Results show that smoking significantly increases SLPI expression, while HPV-positive samples exhibit lower SLPI and higher AnxA2 levels, suggesting smoking may block HPV from binding to AnxA2.
  • The expression of SLPI and AnxA2 can be predicted through analysis of swabs and sputum, indicating potential for these tests to aid in preventing HPV-related cancers with interventions like tonsillectomy or vaccination.

Previous studies describe a correlation between HPV-positivity and non-smoking in TSCC; p16-expression as surrogate-marker for HPV-DNA/RNA-positivity is discussed controversially. In the present study, these parameters are assessed prospectively. HPV-status of sputum and tonsillar-swabs was analyzed to determine their validity as surrogate-marker for tissue-HPV-status.

HPV-infection in patients with HNSCC is reportedly correlated with sexual behavior, age, and tobacco/alcohol-consumption. HPV-infections of the oral cavity are regarded as sexually transmitted. Comparable data of patient populations outside the U.

Developing drug delivery systems that release anticancer drugs in a controlled and sustained manner remains challenging. We hypothesized that highly sulfated heparin-based microcarriers would allow electrostatic drug binding and controlled release. In silico modelling showed that the anticancer drug doxorubicin has affinity for the heparin component of the microcarriers.
