The fission yeast produces the hydroxamate-type siderophore ferrichrome (Fc). The biosynthesis of Fc requires the Fc synthase Sib1, the ornithine-N-oxygenase Sib2, and the N-hydroxyornithine-N-transacetylase Sib3.
