(Fe,Co)(P,Si) quaternary compounds combine large uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy, significant saturation magnetization and tunable Curie temperature, making them attractive for permanent magnet applications. Single crystals or conventionally prepared bulk polycrystalline (Fe,Co)(P,Si) samples do not, however, show a significant coercivity. Here, after a ball-milling stage of elemental precursors, we optimize the sintering temperature and duration during the solid-state synthesis of bulk FeCoPSi compounds so as to obtain coercivity in bulk samples.

Article Synopsis
  • Nuclear F-actin in sperm cells is vital for supporting the acroplaxome and ensuring the correct positioning of the sperm membrane protein IZUMO1, crucial for sperm-oocyte fusion.
  • The study compares high-quality (A-SPZ) and low-quality (B-SPZ) human spermatozoa, revealing that excessive F-actin in B-SPZ altered the localization of IZUMO1.
  • F-actin depolymerization, induced by a treatment called cytochalasin D, improved both IZUMO1 repositioning and acrosome reaction, while promoting better sperm nuclear size and histone acetylation, suggesting F-actin's significant role in sperm quality control.

Background: Since the latest 2017 French guidelines, knowledge about idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis has evolved considerably.

Methods: Practical guidelines were drafted on the initiative of the Coordinating Reference Center for Rare Pulmonary Diseases, led by the French Language Pulmonology Society (SPLF), by a coordinating group, a writing group, and a review group, with the involvement of the entire OrphaLung network, pulmonologists practicing in various settings, radiologists, pathologists, a general practitioner, a health manager, and a patient association. The method followed the "Clinical Practice Guidelines" process of the French National Authority for Health (HAS), including an online vote using a Likert scale.

Peltier cell calorimetry is a powerful technique to record both the heat capacity and the latent heat, yet its availability is limited as it often requires homemade dedicated cryostats. Here, we describe the development of a Peltier cell differential scanning calorimeter facilitating the accessibility to the technique, since it is designed "as an option" for commonplace commercial cryostats equipped with high magnetic fields. This yields an apparatus well suited to detailed studies of magnetic transitions in general and of first-order magnetic transitions in particular.

Article Synopsis
  • Kisspeptins regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, Leydig cell functions, and testosterone secretion by acting on the KISS1 receptor.
  • ANKRD31 protein is crucial for male fertility, influencing meiotic progression and sperm maturation, and it physically interacts with the KISS1 receptor in Leydig cells.
  • The study reveals that Kisspeptin-10 enhances the protein complex formation and gene expression via modulation of F-actin synthesis, highlighting a new role for Kisspeptin-10 in Leydig cells related to cytoskeletal-nucleoskeletal pathways.
