Article Synopsis
  • * Methods: A literature review yielded 19 studies involving 6,509 RHC procedures, focusing on the overall and access-related complications as the main measure of success.
  • * Results: Peripheral venous access (PVA) showed a lower complication rate (0.1%) compared to central venous access (CVA, 1.2%), suggesting that PVA is the preferred method for RHC despite some uncertainty in the data.

Article Synopsis
  • * An 87-year-old patient undergoing elective LAA closure experienced a rare but serious complication—pericardial effusion—leading to cardiac arrest, which required CPR.
  • * The complication was resolved by sealing the perforation with a PFO-occluder, demonstrating that serious issues during procedures can sometimes be treated with interventional techniques, avoiding more invasive surgeries.

We present a new analytical method, which allows the simultaneous analysis of fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), and iodine (I) in geological samples. To account for interferences of Fe on the spectral lines of F, of Al on Br-lines, and of Ca on I-lines, we prepared four new halogen-free calibration glasses. The new method is used to analyze various glass reference materials and crystal-hosted melt inclusions from the Azores.

Background: Various fat depots including visceral (VAT), subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) or liver fat content (LFC) were supposed to have different influences on various entities including adipokine levels as well as insulin resistance/sensitivity. Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate the associations of SAT, VAT and LFC with the levels of leptin and vaspin as well as insulin resistance in a general non-diabetic population.

Methods: In total, 1825 participants of the Study of Health in Pomerania were characterized according to body fat compartments and LFC determined by magnetic resonance imaging.
