Serial killer and necrophilia: Report of twenty-five years of treatment and management in a rare case.

The authors report a case of a sexual serial killer responsible for four homicides (one homosexual and three prostitutes) over a 12-year period. The perpetrator was diagnosed with a severe personality disorder and necrophilia at the time of the crimes and was declared partially mentally impaired and dangerous to societal security by the Court of Jurisdiction for these crimes. The offender served 22 years in prison, including half of the detention in an OPG (High Security Forensic Psychiatry Hospital) receiving psychiatric treatment.

Quantitative MRI for brain lesion diagnosis in dogs and cats: A comprehensive overview.

MRI is widely used for the detection and characterization of brain lesions. There is a growing interest in the potential benefits of quantitative MRI (qMRI) in veterinary brain lesion diagnosis. Yet, the use of data processing tools in the veterinary field is not as democratized as for the diagnosis of human brain pathologies.

Risk of cardiovascular events after gestational diabetes: a retrospective population study.

Aims: To investigate whether the risk for post-partum cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is driven by gestational diabetes (GDM), by GDM-related risk factors and/or by pre-gestational (Pre-GD) or post-gestational diabetes (Post-GD).

Methods: Women delivering in Tuscany, Italy in years 2010-2012 (n = 74,720), were identified from certificates of care at delivery and further identified as affected with GDM, Pre-GD or Post-GD through regional administrative databases. Women with GDM, Pre-GD or Post-GD were retrospectively evaluated for risk of post-partum hospitalizations for CVD (myocardial infarction or stroke; n = 728) across years 2013-2021, comparing women with different forms of diabetes to those without diabetes.

The Appropriateness of Medical Devices Is Strongly Influenced by Sex and Gender.

Until now, research has been performed mainly in men, with a low recruitment of women; consequentially, biological, physiological, and physio-pathological mechanisms are less understood in women. Obviously, without data obtained on women, it is impossible to apply the results of research appropriately to women. This issue also applies to medical devices (MDs), and numerous problems linked to scarce pre-market research and clinical trials on MDs were evidenced after their introduction to the market.
