Tardigrades are microscopic animals that survive desiccation by inducing biostasis. To survive drying tardigrades rely on intrinsically disordered CAHS proteins, which also function to prevent perturbations induced by drying in vitro and in heterologous systems. CAHS proteins have been shown to form gels both in vitro and in vivo, which has been speculated to be linked to their protective capacity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIonic liquids (ILs) are salts composed of a combination of organic or inorganic cations and anions characterized by a low melting point, often below 100 °C. This property, together with an extremely low vapor pressure, low flammability and high thermal stability, makes them suitable for replacing canonical organic solvents, with a reduction of industrial activities impact on the environment. Although in the last decades the eco-compatibility of ILs has been extensively verified through toxicological tests performed on model organisms, a detailed understanding of the interaction of these compounds with biological membranes is far from being exhaustive.

Methods: This is a retrospective observational study from a prospectively maintained data-base comparing two time frames, Period 1(15th March-30th May 2019-P1) and Period 2(15th March-30th May 2020-P2)All the patients who presented for a vascular review in the 2 timeframes were included. Metrics of service and patient care episodes were collected and compared including, the number of emergency referrals, patient encounters, consultations, emergency admissions and interventions.
Polycythemia vera is a myeloproliferative neoplasm with increased risk of thrombosis and progression to myelofibrosis. However, no disease-specific risk factors have been identified so far. Circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) are mostly of megakaryocyte (MK-EVs) and platelet (PLT-EVs) origin and, along with phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)-EVs, play a role in cancer and thrombosis.

Purpose: Despite advances in endovascular management of aorto-iliac occlusive disease (AIOD) including covered endovascular reconstruction of aortic bifurcation (CERAB) techniques, guidelines for management of symptomatic Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC II) type C/D lesions favour open surgical revascularisation. This meta-analysis investigates outcomes in patients with TASC II C/D lesions treated with open bypass procedures (OS), standard endovascular treatments (SEV) or CERAB.
Methods: Multiple databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane database) were searched to identify studies reporting endovascular and open treatment of extensive AIOD.
