Effects of a workplace exercise program on physical capacity and lower back symptoms in hospital nursing assistants: a randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: Considering the relevance of muscle strength for sustaining good musculoskeletal health among workers who perform physically demanding work, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a therapeutic exercise program on muscle strength and low back symptoms among hospital nursing assistants.

Methods: One hundred and twenty-nine nursing assistants filled out a questionnaire on personal, occupational information and health status, which allowed the identification of workers able to exercise. Ninety participants were randomly allocated to an intervention and a reference group.

Randomized Controlled Trials Evaluating Effect of Television Advertising on Food Intake in Children: Why Such a Sensitive Topic is Lacking Top-Level Evidence?

The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of evidence coming from randomized controlled trials (RCT) aimed at assessing the effect of television advertising on food intake in children from 4 to 12 years old. Randomized controlled trials were searched in PubMed database and included if they assessed the effect of direct exposure to television food advertising over the actual energy intake of children. Seven studies out of 2166 fulfilled the inclusion criteria.

Prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in hospital nurse technicians and licensed practical nurses: associations with demographic factors.

Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed at analyzing: 1. the main musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS) presented by hospital nursing workers and; 2. personal, occupational, and health factors related to MSS among them.

An epidemiological study investigating the relationship between chorangioma and infantile hemangioma.

Objectives: This study aimed to verify whether the infantile hemangioma (IH) incidence in children whose placentas showed a chorangioma is higher than in the general population, thus addressing the hypothesized relationship between chorangioma and IH.

Methods: All chorangioma diagnoses by the 1st Service of Pathology, University of Padova in 2004-2010, based on the analysis of placentas sent by the Department of Gynecological Sciences and Human Reproduction (University of Padova), were identified. Demographic, anamnestic and clinical data were collected from the mothers and newborns; mothers and pediatricians were interviewed by telephone within 1 year after birth to verify if any IH appeared.

[Preventing the risks linked to chewing and swallowing disorders].

Various degenerative diseases or pathologies cause chewing and/or swallowing disorders in elderly people as well as in younger patients. In order to prevent the food being swallowed into the airway, a problem which is inherent to these conditions, the nurse is involved in choosing the patient's food, in collaboration with the dietary department.
