Article Synopsis
  • Cancer is a major non-communicable disease that requires early diagnosis through the identification of specific biomarkers, with microRNAs (miRNAs) emerging as promising options; miR-21, in particular, is known to be overexpressed in various cancers.
  • A novel biosensor using silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) was developed to detect miR-21, employing a specialized hairpin sequence and a guanine-rich sequence to enhance fluorescence signals, which increased in the presence of miR-21.
  • The biosensor demonstrated effective detection of miR-21 in a linear range of concentrations and was successfully tested on human plasma and cancer cell samples, offering a simpler, cost-effective method for miRNA detection without

Article Synopsis
  • Early fetal sex determination is essential for managing prenatal diagnoses of X-linked genetic issues and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
  • The study created a new, efficient method using DNA biosensors based on carbon nanotubes to detect fetal DNA in maternal blood samples.
  • The biosensors showed significant fluorescence recovery when target DNA was present, demonstrating their potential for accurate and early fetal sex detection with specific limits of detection for each probe used.

Abusing organic dyes in industrial food products is an important issue in many countries. Rapid chemical sensing of these compounds can be of great importance during the industrial life of humans. In this work, we synthesized a new fluorescent polymer dot and successfully applied it as an optical probe for the detection of red color abuse in foodstuffs.

In this study, a citalopram optical nano-sensor was developed. Citalopram is a well-known antidepressant drug that reduces the reuptake of serotonin in neurons as a result, serotonin neurotransmission, the primary response to antidepressant treatments, increases in many parts of the brain. This study introduces a carbon quantum dots (CQDs)-based optical nanosensor for rapid detection of citalopram.

Carbendazim (CBZ) as a fungicide is widely used to control fungal diseases in agriculture, veterinary medicine, and forestry. In this study, molecularly imprinted nano-size polymer was synthesized and then combined with multiwalled carbon nanotubes to be used as modifiers for carbon paste electrode to detect carbendazim in water, fruit, agricultural wastewater, and urine samples by using the square-wave technique. Some common ions and pesticides were investigated as interferences in analyte, to study the sensitivity and selectivity of the modified carbon paste electrode for carbendazim.
