Article Synopsis
  • Dupuytren's disease (DD) is a hand disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors, impacting the extracellular matrix (ECM) with significant structural changes.
  • The study identified key alterations in ECM components, specifically an increase in certain disaccharides and a rise in versican levels, while decorin levels declined as the disease advanced.
  • Findings suggest that specific proteoglycans and changes in collagen structure could serve as potential biomarkers for tracking DD progression, with noted decreases in urinary glycosaminoglycan excretion indicating a broader systemic effect.

Article Synopsis
  • Congenital Anomalies of the Upper Limb (CAUL) refer to structural or functional abnormalities that occur during fetal development, potentially resulting in limb dysfunction.
  • A study conducted in Brazil from 2010 to 2019 found that supernumerary fingers were the most common CAUL, affecting 11,708 live births, with increased prevalence in mothers over 40 and a higher likelihood in newborns weighing less than 2,500 grams.
  • The research highlights a rising trend in CAUL cases, emphasizing the need for health agencies to focus on understanding its prevalence and associated risk factors for improved preventive measures.

The main purpose of this research was to do an intraindividual comparison of outcomes between the open ulnar incision (OUI) and the Paine retinaculotome with palmar incision (PRWPI) techniques in patients with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The patients underwent OUI surgery on one hand and PRWPI surgery on the contralateral hand. The patients were evaluated with the Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire, visual analogue scale for pain, palmar grip strength, and fingertip, key, and tripod pinch strengths.
