Rapid purification of billions of circulating CD19+ B cells directly from leukophoresis samples.

The study of the biology and function of B cells, or the dissection and in vitro creation of enormous recombinant antibody repertoires, requires the isolation of large numbers of pure CD19+ B cells. The StraightFrom Leukopak CD19 MicroBead Kit was recently introduced as a fast and robust kit to isolate human CD19+ B cells. This uses paramagnetic microbeads conjugated to high-affinity anti-CD19 monoclonal antibodies to bind B cells in leukapheresis (Leukopak) samples.

Open reduction and internal fixation versus closed treatment and mandibulomaxillary fixation of fractures of the mandibular condylar process: a randomized, prospective, multicenter study with special evaluation of fracture level.

Purpose: This randomized, clinical multicenter trial investigated the treatment outcomes of displaced condylar fractures, and whether radiographic fracture level was a prognostic factor in therapeutic decision-making between open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) versus closed reduction and mandibulomaxillary fixation (CRMMF).

Patients And Methods: Sixty-six patients with 79 displaced fractures (deviation of 10 degrees to 45 degrees, or shortening of the ascending ramus >or=2 mm) of the condylar process of the mandible at 7 clinical centers were enrolled. Patients were randomly allocated to CRMMF (n = 30 patients) or ORIF (n = 36 patients) treatment.

Open versus closed treatment of fractures of the mandibular condylar process-a prospective randomized multi-centre study.

Aim: The aim of this international prospective randomized multi-centre study was to compare operative and conservative treatment of displaced condylar fractures of the mandible.

Methods And Patients: Out of a total of 88 randomized patients from 7 centres, 66 patients with 79 fractures of the mandibular condylar process completed the study and were evaluated. All fractures were displaced, being either angulated between 10 degrees and 45 degrees or the ascending ramus was shortened by more than 2mm.

Benzoyl peroxide (BP) is an initiator of polymerisation used in the synthesis of methyl methacrylate dental materials, and is a known allergen that causes allergic contact dermatitis during occupational exposure, especially in dentists and dental personnel. The eyes of dental technicians, dentists and even patients with an allergic history are the first level of exposure, and therefore complaints of allergic reactions of the eyes are usually noted. In this article the authors used a modification direct cell culture testing method to assess the cytotoxic potential of BP.
