A key challenge toward future quantum internet technology is connecting quantum processors at metropolitan scale. Here, we report on heralded entanglement between two independently operated quantum network nodes separated by 10 kilometers. The two nodes hosting diamond spin qubits are linked with a midpoint station via 25 kilometers of deployed optical fiber.

Screening large molecule libraries against pathogenic bacteria is often challenged by a low hit rate due to limited uptake, underrepresentation of antibiotic structural motifs, and assays that do not resemble the infection conditions. To address these limitations, we present a screen of a focused library of alkyl guanidinium compounds, a structural motif associated with antibiotic activity and enhanced uptake, under host-mimicking infection conditions against a panel of disease-associated bacteria. Several hit molecules were identified with activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, highlighting the fidelity of the general concept.

Herein, we describe the total synthesis of the depsipeptide vioprolide B and of an analogue, in which the ()-dehydrobutyrine amino acid was replaced by glycine. The compounds were studied in biological assays which revealed cytotoxicity solely for vioprolide B presumably by covalent binding to cysteine residues of elongation factor eEF1A1 and of chromatin assembly factor CHAF1A.

Purpose: We investigated the association between the administration of phosphodiesterase 3 inhibitors (PDE3i) and lactate kinetics, resolution of organ failure, ICU and hospital length of stay (LOS) and hospital mortality in a retrospective cohort of patients with septic shock and persistently elevated lactate concentrations.

Material And Methods: Patients with septic shock and two arterial lactate concentrations ≥4 mmol/L with at least 4 h between measurements were eligible. Clinical data of the first four days of admission were collected in an online database.

An Nd:YAG-MOPA system consisting of a stable oscillator and two subsequent Innoslab-based amplifier stages has been designed and built as a technology demonstrator for future lidar applications. Overall, the authors demonstrate that it generates more than 500 mJ of pulse energy at a 1064 nm wavelength and 100 Hz pulse repetition frequency at about 30 ns pulse duration in the single longitudinal mode. Seeded with 75 mJ pulses, the second amplifier stage achieved an optical efficiency (extracted energy to pump energy) of more than 23% while preserving excellent beam quality.
