Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Hypertriglyceridemia and Abdominal Pain due to Acute Pancreatitis Complicated by Non-immune Haemolytic Anaemia.

Unlabelled: The triad of diabetic ketoacidosis, acute pancreatitis and hypertriglyceridemia is a rare phenomenon, with mortality rates of up to 80%. A unique characteristic of the described case is the co-occurrence of non-immune haemolytic anaemia (NIHA) with the complex triad. It is suggested that this presentation is secondary to hyperlipidemia which leads to increased fragility of erythrocytes due to destabilization of red cell membranes.

Isolation and characterization of a cDNA clone coding for a glutathione S-transferase class delta enzyme from the biting midge Culicoides variipennis sonorensis Wirth and Jones.

Culicoides variipennis sonorensis is the primary vector of bluetongue viruses in North America. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are enzymes that catalyze nucleophilic substitutions, converting reactive lipophilic molecules into soluble conjugates. Increased GST activity is associated with development of insecticide resistance.

Auxin-sensitive elements from promoters of tobacco GST genes and a consensus as-1-like element differ only in relative strength.

We have investigated the cis-acting potential of several as elements (20-bp as-1/ocs-like sequences) in both yeast and plant cells. These TGACG[N7]TGACG-resembling elements were surprisingly similar with respect to their ability to confer inducibility by auxins and related compounds to a heterologous TATA box in stably transformed plant cells. Both in plant cells and in yeast it was found that differences between as elements were of a quantitative nature.

Promoter analysis of the auxin-regulated tobacco glutathione S-transferase genes Nt103-1 and Nt103-35.

We have analysed the promoter regions of two closely related auxin-regulated glutathione S-transferase genes. All active deletion constructs tested showed expression of the reporter gene beta-glucuronidase (gusA) in root tips of young seedlings and newly developing lateral roots. Auxin treatment greatly enhanced the level of expression.
