Radiotherapy both promotes and antagonises tumour immune recognition. Some clinical studies show improved patient outcomes when immunotherapies are integrated with radiotherapy. Safe, greater than additive, clinical response to the combination is limited to a subset of patients, however, and how radiotherapy can best be combined with immunotherapies remains unclear.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to study the potential of progression-free survival as a surrogate end point for trials evaluating the use of systemic therapy in advanced cervical cancer.

Methods: We performed a systematic review selecting phase II and III randomized trials including locally advanced, recurrent, and metastatic cervical cancer, with mature progression-free survival and overall survival data. Our study adhered to the Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist and was registered in International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42023405604).

Room-temperature cavity quantum electrodynamics with molecular materials in optical cavities offers exciting prospects for controlling electronic, nuclear and photonic degrees of freedom for applications in physics, chemistry and materials science. However, achieving strong coupling with molecular ensembles typically requires high molecular densities and substantial electromagnetic-field confinement. These conditions usually involve a significant degree of molecular disorder and a highly structured photonic density of states.

Over the last decade, the annual Immunorad Conference, held under the joint auspicies of Gustave Roussy (Villejuif, France) and the Weill Cornell Medical College (New-York, USA) has aimed at exploring the latest advancements in the fields of tumor immunology and radiotherapy-immunotherapy combinations for the treatment of cancer. Gathering medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, physicians and researchers with esteemed expertise in these fields, the Immunorad Conference bridges the gap between preclinical outcomes and clinical opportunities. Thus, it paves a promising way toward optimizing radiotherapy-immunotherapy combinations and, from a broader perspective, improving therapeutic strategies for patients with cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes bacteremia and antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacilli among patients with hematological malignancies and those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplants across different geographic regions.
  • It includes 1,277 cases of bacteremia, revealing that Gram-negative bacilli were present in 60.3% of episodes, with a notable occurrence of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) affecting 40.2% of these infections.
  • Key risk factors for 30-day mortality identified include relapse of underlying disease, use of corticosteroids, and the presence of resistant bacteria, emphasizing the high mortality associated with carbapenem-resistant cases.
