Injuries to the Stomatognathic System in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Athletes.

As a contact sport, Brazilian jiu-jitsu requires the fighter to expose his/her stomatognathic system to the adversary, making him/her more susceptible to oral and maxillofacial injuries and disorders. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of injuries and disorders of the stomatognathic system and associated factors among practitioners of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. A total of 179 athletes were interviewed and submitted to a physical examination.

[Pain, anxiety and quality of life related to the oral health of patients treated in a dental emergency clinic].

The scope of this study was to assess the association between preoperative pain, anxiety and the impact of the oral condition on the quality of life of patients treated at the Dental Emergency Service at the Federal University of the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri Valleys. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted evaluating data from 240 patient charts aged from 18 to 65 years. Pain was measured by the Heft-Parker Visual Analog Scale; dental anxiety by Corah's Dental Anxiety Scale; and oral health-related quality of life by the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14).

Computer-assisted analysis of tongue thickness of golden hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) following topical chronic exposure to distilled alcoholic beverages.

The aim of this study was to measure changes in epithelial thickness in the lingual mucosa of golden hamsters submitted to the topical application of distilled alcoholic beverages. Forty golden hamsters were randomly divided into: Group 1-cachaça 48° GL and Group 2-whisky 40° GL. Alcohol was applied to the right side of the tongue, the left side served as control.

Factors Affecting the Periapical Status of Root-Filled Canals: A Cross-Sectional Study at the Undergraduate Level.

Objective: The aim was to evaluate the influence of multiple factors on the periapical status of endodontically treated (ET) teeth.

Methods: The patients were clinically and radiographically reevaluated after root canal therapy. The quality of the root-filled canals, coronal restorations, intraradicular posts, dental caries, and periodontal parameters were associated with the teeth's periapical status.

Multiple Desmoplastic Cellular Neurothekeomas in Child: Report of the First Oral Case and Review of the Literature.

Cellular neurothekeomas (CNs) are distinctive benign tumors of uncertain histogenesis, with predilection for the skin of the head and neck region. We describe the first case of multiple desmoplastic CNs (DCNs) affecting the oral cavity in a 9-year-old girl. Histopathologic evaluation showed a proliferation of spindle and epithelioid cells, forming nests and bundles, supported by exuberant fibrous stroma, as well as scattered multinucleated floret-like giant cells.
