Ten Caucasian males with HIV-related Kaposi's sarcoma, a disseminated disease which is refractory to usual therapies, underwent a single session of systemic hyperthermia with maintenance of core temperatures at 42 degrees C for 1 h. One complete remission and 7 partial remissions were identified when assessed 30 days post-treatment. Two mixed responses were noted in patients whose tumors showed autocrine growth.
