The management of pilon fractures: An expert survey of AO trauma Italy members and evidence-based treatment recommendations.

Operative decision-making of tibial pilon fractures is still of great complexity. The AO Trauma Italy has investigated the trend in the management of this fractures among orthopedic surgeons in Italy. A literature-based survey focused on preoperative planning and surgical strategies has been submitted to all the participants and the results were discussed in an online webinar in light of the most recent literature with the aim to outline common treatment recommendations especially useful for young surgeons.

Transinguinal Ultrasound versus Magnetic Resonance in Spica Cast after Closed Reduction of Unstable Hips in DDH.

Background: During the treatment of unstable hips in developmental hip dysplasia (DDH), the position of the femoral head must be assessed in spica cast (SC) after reduction. A transinguinal sonographic technique (TIT) to the hip joint has been previously described in the literature. The aim of this study is to evaluate the agreement among TIT and MR to identify hip reduction.

Perinatal arterial ischemic stroke: how informative is the placenta?

Neuroplacentology is an expanding field of interest that addresses the placental influence on fetal and neonatal brain lesions and on further neurodevelopment. The objective of this study was to clarify the link between placental pathology and perinatal arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS). Prior publications have reported different types of perinatal stroke with diverse methodologies precluding firm conclusions.

Myocardial Injury After Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement Versus Surgical Reoperation.

This study aimed to evaluate the incidence and clinical implications of myocardial injury, as determined by cardiac biomarker increase, in patients who underwent mitral bioprosthesis dysfunction treatment with transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) versus surgical mitral valve replacement reoperation (SMVR-REDO). Between 2014 and 2023, 310 patients with mitral bioprosthesis failure were included (90 and 220 patients for TMVR and SMVR-REDO, respectively). Multivariable analysis and propensity score matching were performed to adjust for the intergroup differences in baseline characteristics.
