Here, we reconstruct the origins and diversification of neotropical lineages in one of the largest clades of ectomycorrhizal fungi in the globally widespread family Russulaceae. New Caledonia, a biodiversity hotspot located in the southwest Pacific, is one-third covered by ultramafic substrates.
