Spontaneous movements in the newborns: a tool of quantitative video analysis of preterm babies.

Background And Objectives: The number of preterm babies is steadily growing world-wide and these neonates are at risk of neuro-motor-cognitive deficits. The observation of spontaneous movements in the first three months of age is known to predict such risk. However, the analysis by specifically trained physiotherapists is not suited for the clinical routine, motivating the development of simple computerized video analysis systems, integrated with a well-structured Biobank to make available for preterm babies a growing service with diagnostic, prognostic and epidemiological purposes.

Long-Distance, Nonstop Neonatal Transport From Shanghai, China, to Genoa, Italy.

The purpose of this article is to describe the long-distance, nonstop intercontinental transport of a severely ill, mechanically ventilated newborn from Shanghai, China, to Genoa, Italy focusing in particular on the clinical and planning difficulties. The aircraft equipment, the assessment and preparation for transport are discussed.

The PREgnancy and FERtility (PREFER) study: an Italian multicenter prospective cohort study on fertility preservation and pregnancy issues in young breast cancer patients.

Background: Fertility and pregnancy issues are of key importance for young breast cancer patients. Despite several advances in the field, there are still multiple unmet needs and barriers in discussing and dealing with these concerns. To address the significant challenges related to fertility and pregnancy issues, the PREgnancy and FERtility (PREFER) study was developed as a national comprehensive program aiming to optimize care and improve knowledge around these topics.

A retrospective analysis of the occurrence of accidents during 20 years of neonatal transport in Liguria region, Italy.

Our article focuses on a retrospective analysis of the occurrence of accidents relating to 20 years of activity of Neonatal Emergency Transport Service (NETS) in Liguria region, Italy. The objective of this study is to determine the vehicle accident rate for a specialized emergency medical services-NETS transport system between 1995 and 2015. We reviewed 5035 medical records related to the activity of our NETS from its beginning, in February 1995 to June 2015.

The proper tidal volume target using volume guarantee ventilation in the course of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome: a crucial endpoint.

Volume guarantee ventilation (VGV) is an optional ventilation mode which has become the most widely and extensively studied in the last 10 years in premature infants. Nonetheless, theoretical expected endpoints are intriguing and even though VGV has not yet become 'the' standard ventilation mode, a great deal of information has been acquired and stored. In our experience, VGV during the course of respiratory distress syndrome is useful and can be considered a standard ventilation mode.
