Xanthomatous meningioma is an extremely rare subtype of metaplastic meningiomas with few cases reported in the literature. Histopathologically, it is composed of oval-shaped cells that have central nuclei and cytoplasm with lipid-filled vacuoles, resembling macrophages. Here, the authors present a case of xanthomatous meningioma and discuss the hypotheses related to its origin and the differential diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Splenic involvement in ANCA-associated vasculitides (AAVs) is often underestimated, with a notable frequency of splenic lesions found in patients, particularly those with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA).
  • A study analyzed CT images from 69 AAV patients, finding that 28% had splenic pathologies, primarily splenomegaly and splenic infarction, which were predominantly seen in GPA patients.
  • Younger patients with GPA and specific ENT and eye involvement had a higher likelihood of splenic infarction, suggesting its potential as a distinguishing factor in diagnosing GPA versus other forms of AAV.
