We herein investigated the influence of temperature on the embryonic development (from fertilisation to hatching) of larvae. For this purpose, oocytes (>600 μm) and sperm were obtained from breeding stock at the laboratory of marine fish culture (LAPMAR). After fertilisation, 1200 eggs were distributed in 12 cylindrical experimental units of 400 mL under four different temperatures 18, 22, 26 and 30 ºC, all in triplicate.

The use of live feeds during the larviculture phase of marine fish is a significant component of production costs. The present study evaluated the effects of the feeding transition on different larval stages of M.

Blood analysis is an important tool for monitoring the health status of fish, but the time between collection and analysis can affect the outcome of the analysis. This study sought to determine the maximum time refrigerated blood and frozen plasma samples of the tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, can be stored without affecting analysis. Samples from 12 fish were obtained, stored under refrigeration at 4 °C and evaluated after 0, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h, while samples from 14 fish were centrifuged, and the resulting plasma was frozen at -20 °C and then evaluated after 0, 8, 12, 16 and 20 weeks.

Artemia nauplii are widely used as fish larvae feed due to its beneficial nutritional characteristics for larval development; however, efficient feeding strategies are needed to balance its high costs. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of different densities of Artemia nauplii (100, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 nauplii/post-larvae) on the growth, survival, water quality, and myogenic gene expression of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) post-larvae cultivated in a recirculating aquaculture system. After 2 weeks of trial, there was a significant decrease in dissolved oxygen concentration with the increase in nauplii density, but it did not interfere with larval performance and survival.
