Personal recovery in the postdischarge period for individuals with schizophrenia spectrum diagnoses: The role of community integration and social support.

Objective: The experience of personal recovery from mental health has been theorized to occur through several pathways. CHIME is a seminal theoretical framework of personal recovery that is widely endorsed by the existing literature. Few studies have examined the utility of the CHIME framework with those experiencing acute challenges in their engagement in the recovery process.

Randomized trial of a brief peer support intervention for individuals with schizophrenia transitioning from hospital to community.

This phase 2 randomized trial examined the outcomes of a brief, transitional, peer support intervention designed to address the poor outcomes that are common for individuals with schizophrenia spectrum illnesses in the period immediately following hospitalization. In the context of treatment-as-usual, participants were provided with a peer support intervention, 'the Welcome Basket,' in which participants received 1-2 sessions of peer support in the two weeks before discharge and met weekly for a month post-discharge. The study also piloted a brief version of this intervention with only one community session post-discharge with the same pre-discharge process.

Methods: This was a retrospective, observational study in adult patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection receiving mechanical ventilation.

Periodontitis and gingivitis are highly prevalent inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, and typically are characterised by the presence of dental plaque. However, other causes of oral inflammation exist, which can resemble plaque-induced gingivitis and periodontitis, and may thus first be seen by a dental practitioner. This paper aims to provide dentists with an understanding of the manifestations of systemic diseases to the periodontium and highlights anamnestic and clinical clues important for distinguishing between plaque-induced and non plaque-induced lesions.

Periodontitis and gingivitis remain two of the most common diseases that affect the oral cavity. As they are caused by plaque, effective oral hygiene, elimination of plaque-retentive factors and successful periodontal treatment will result in resolution of gingival and periodontal inflammation. Certain systemic diseases can have a clinical appearance similar to periodontal diseases or exacerbate existing periodontitis/gingivitis and vice versa.
