Background: Flecainide and other class-Ic antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) are widely used in Andersen-Tawil syndrome type 1 (ATS1) patients. However, class-Ic drugs might be proarrhythmic in some cases. We investigated the molecular mechanisms of class-I AADs proarrhythmia and whether they might increase the risk of death in ATS1 patients with structurally normal hearts.

Previous studies have linked the microbiome of distinct body habitats to obesity and infertility; however, the often-divergent results observed have left the role of the so-called "second genome" in obese infertile patients incompletely explored. Here, we present a prospective observational multicenter study of oral, gut, endometrial, and vaginal microbiota of infertile patients classified according to BMI. Patients collected saliva/fecal samples, while vaginal/endometrial fluid samples were collected in the clinic.

The process of healthy aging involves complex alterations in neural structures, with white matter (WM) changes significantly impacting cognitive and motor functions. Conventional methods such as diffusion tensor imaging provide valuable insights, but their limitations in capturing complex WM geometry advocate for more advanced approaches. In this study involving 120 healthy volunteers, we investigated whole-brain WM differences between young and old individuals using a novel technique called fixel-based analysis (FBA).

Article Synopsis
  • Cryptococcosis, caused by environmental fungi, leads to severe pneumonia and systemic infections, especially in immune-compromised individuals, with rising cases seen in immunocompetent hosts due to strain R265.* -
  • The study investigates the roles of cytokines IL-22 and IL-23 in managing lung health during R265 infections, revealing their importance in preserving lung barrier integrity and preventing excessive damage.* -
  • Findings indicate that IL-22 helps control neutrophil activity and promotes eosinophil presence in the lungs, providing crucial insights into immune response and tissue management during aggressive cryptococcal infections.*
