Sudden unexpected death due to Fournier gangrene.

Fournier gangrene is a rare fulminant necrotizing infection of the skin and soft tissue of the perineum that may result in rapid death. We describe the autopsy case of a 70-year-old female with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus who was found unexpectedly dead in her house where she lived with her dog. Examination of the body revelaed a deep necrotic ulceration of the perineum with exposure of the underlying deep muscles that was initially misinterpreted by police officers as post mortem animal predation.

The spectrum of acute heart failure after venlafaxine overdose.

Objective: Venlafaxine is a bicyclic antidepressant that may be associated with severe cardiotoxicity following large overdose. The purpose of this short case series is to present different patterns of venlafaxine-related cardiotoxicity and to discuss the potential mechanisms.

Case Series: Between January 2010 and July 2011, four patients were admitted to an ICU with acute left ventricular failure following large venlafaxine overdoses.

Introduction: Although the ingestion of a dose of colchicine lower than 0.5 mg/kg is usually complicated by a mortality rate less than 5%, severe complications may be associated with drug-drug interactions in case of overdose combining other drugs. 

Case Report: A 33-year-old previously healthy woman was admitted after a drug overdose combining colchicine, atorvastatin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, and furosemide.
